Circulation staff are happy to help you locate items you are unable to find on the shelves. In addition to materials owned by the SPU library, most borrower types are also able to request materials from Orbis Cascade Alliance Libraries using the Summit borrowing system. For materials unavailable through Summit, Interlibrary Loan is available.
Borrower types
Renewals: Patrons may renew most items online through Your Library Records. If you have trouble renewing an item, call the Circulation Desk at 206-281-2228 during business hours for assistance.
Overdue, fines, and billing: The SPU Library no longer charges overdue fines for most items. However, late fees may be assessed for lost or missing items, overdue technology items, Summit items, or items in high demand. Items are considered lost at 25 days past due and patrons will be charged for replacement through their Student Financial Services account.
Items returned in the first six months after they have gone billed will have their replacement charges credited but a processing fee will still be assessed. These charges are $5 per SPU owned item and $20 for each Summit Borrowing item. At six months items are considered permanently lost and no credits will be given.
In the event that a loaned technology item is declared lost, the patron will be billed the replacement cost of the item, as assessed by library staff.
If you have special circumstances that prevent you from returning books that are not lost (emergency travel, for example), contact the library to explain your situation. We will work with you to minimize possible charges.
Patron responsibility: The Library emails a date-due record at the time of checkout and sends courtesy reminders and overdue notices to your SPU email address or the email address you provide. However, whether or not you receive these notices, you are responsible for returning materials that have been checked out on your ID card on time.
